3 August 2015, New York, USA | Brendan Pastor - South-South News

The post-2015 agenda has been formally adopted, following an unusual marathon negotiation that ended Sunday night, paving the way for ceremonial ratification by heads of state in September this year. A press conference featuring the Secretary-General, co-facilitators of the post-2015 process, and key UN development officials was held to announce this historic framework of sustainable development for the next fifteen years.

Hot on the heels of the Millennium Development Goals, this new agenda is bigger, more ambitious, more inclusive, and more universal than any in history, targeting areas of social development, economic growth, and environmental harmony.

Member states have committed to meeting the 17 goals and 169 targets by 2030. But as with all political promises, they must translate into real action on the ground.
