Can Finance Work for Climate?

Posted on : 14.07.2015

14 July 2015, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia | Brendan Pastor - South-South News

The second day of the Finance for Development conference in Addis Ababa continued as delegates worked to finalize an outcome document that suitably addresses the various needs of financing sustainable development for the next fifteen years. But many of the big debates were taking place outside the plenary meeting. Over 200 side events are tackling key areas being addressed in the Addis outcome document. One of the most consequential subjects is the question of how to make finance work for the environment.

Much attention has been paid to climate finance, given the overarching threat to humanity posed by global warming. But officials worry that the resources needed to tackle the crisis and promote resilience are significantly beneath what the current financial architecture is able to provide.
