3rd International Finance for Development Conference in Addis Ababa
13-16 July 2015, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia | South-South News
Over thirty heads of state, hundreds of senior government leaders, top UN officials, as well as over a thousand private sector and civil society representatives are meeting in Ethiopia's capital, Addis Ababa, to accomplish one not-so-minor feat: create a new global financial architecture to finance sustainable development for the next fifteen years.
The third International Conference on Financing for Development is one of the many meetings, but certainly one of the most important, in the lead up to the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals: a universal framework of goals meant to promote social development, economic growth, and environmental protection for all countries by 2030. The SDGs are leaps and bounds more ambitious and complex than their predecessor, the Millennium Development Goals, and therefore raise important questions over how to pay for them.
