Susan Davis, President & CEO, BRAC USA
President and CEO of BRAC USA, Susan Davis meets with South-South News to discuss what the international organization BRAC USA is and what its goals are. It is mentioned during the interview that BRAC is the largest non-profit organization in the world and started in Bangladesh in 1972. Today BRAC works in Haiti and ten other countries. Davis discusses some of the programs that BRAC operates such as working with expecting mothers to increase maternal and infant mortality.

When the Iranian people turned out to the polls this week to elect moderate reformist Hassan Rowhani, they offered a repudiation of the Ahmadinejad era; a time marked by domestic turmoil and economic stagnation, coupled with isolation abroad and an escalation of tension with Israel and the West.

Of all the water on earth only 2.5 percent is freshwater. Of all the freshwater on earth only less than one percent is usable supply for ecosystems and humans. Acknowledging these figures, the United Nations and UN member states gather on Monday, June 17, to celebrate “UN World Day to Combat Desertification.”

Fresh figures released by the United Nations Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) find that, “An estimated 26 percent of the world’s children are stunted, two billion people suffer from one or more micronutrient deficiencies and 1.4 billion people are overweight, of whom 500 million are obese.”
