Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon Honored for Leadership in Women’s and Children’s Health
United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon accepted a South-South Award on Thursday,
recognizing his leadership and work to improve the health of women and children
around the world. He did so at a lunch at the Millennium Hotel, in New York City,
sponsored by South-South News. The award was given to the Secretary-General by South-South
News, in collaboration with the Permanent Mission of Antigua and Barbuda to the
United Nation, the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, and International
Telecommunications Union. Since taking office in 2007, Mr. Ban has provided unprecedented
global leadership in the field of women’s and children’s health, initiating a program
called “Every Woman Every Child,” which aims to save as many as 16 million lives
in developing countries by the Millennium Development Goal Deadline of 2015.
