On the eve of the 65th session of the United Nations General Assembly and the High-Level Meeting on the MDGs, South-South News and the MDG Awards Committee convened an event at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City, to recognize progress towards achieving the United Nations Millennium Development Goals. The concert and awards ceremony was hosted by model/actress Christie Brinkley, and attended by numerous Heads of State, Foreign Ministers and member-state Ambassadors from over 50 countries, as well as high-level officials at the UN and leaders from the private sector. Performers included Grammy winning artists such as Roberta Flack, Kenny G and Gloria Gaynor. Awardees on this evening included Presidents, Prime Ministers, CEOs and civil society organizations that are all working towards the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals by the year 2015.
