Ghana President Talks Education on Official Visit to South-South News
President John Atta Mills of Ghana made an official trip to South-South News headquarters
in New York on Wednesday, where he sat down for an exclusive interview with South-South
News anchor Afaf Konja on the state of development in his West African nation. Ghana,
which is seen as a model of democracy in the region, has seen significant growth
in the ten months that President Mills has been in office, and has staved off the
effects of global economic malaise with considerable success. The President stressed
the importance of education in the developing world, and described the initiatives
that his administration has undertaken to meet Millennium Development Goal 2; universal
primary education.

After being greeted by South-South News President Ambassador Francis Lorenzo and
Special Adviser Ambassador Oscar de Rojas, President John Atta Mills of Ghana was
given a tour of South-South News’s state of the art media facilities, and had a
chance to meet some of our staff and ambassadors from U.N. Missions. The President
then sat down for an interview with South-South News anchor Afaf Konja before a brief
ceremony during which the he received a recognition for his leadership on economic
and education issues. President Mills then accepted an Interactive Multimedia Education
System (IMES); a device built by South-South News to cheaply and effective improve
education in developing countries by linking teachers to students and allowing them
to tailor their curricula to their students’ needs.
